The day-long trip will begin at Castle Howard, one of Britain’s finest historic houses. The castle is set in Grade I listed parkland and remains the home of the Howard family.
Readers will get to take in the castle’s breath-taking architecture and world-renowned collections, as its friendly and knowledgeable guides share the stories of generations of the Howard family.
On arrival at Castle Howard readers will be welcomed over morning coffee before choosing to embark either on a free flow tour of the house – to discover its stories and learn about the recent filming of ITV’s Victoria – or join a guided tour of the gardens to find out more about the history of the monumental landscape and walled garden.
After a light lunch of soup and a sandwich, freshly prepared by Castle Howard’s chefs, readers will be taken by York Pullman to York Minster; one of the world’s most eye-catching cathedrals – a masterpiece in stained-glass and stone, with foundations rooted in the nation’s earliest history.
This part of the day will include a 45-minute guided tour with one of the cathedral’s expert guides and a visit to the museum, Revealing York Minster in the Undercroft.
Here readers will get to experience an immersive and interactive journey through two millennia of York’s history and see artefacts that had never been on public display before.
The day will finish with a return to Castle Howard for a delicious cream tea.
