A Somerset Success

I am writing to let you know about when our group of 47 spent a late September weekend in Somerset, staying at Dauncey's Hotel in Weston-super-Mare.
We enjoyed visiting Bath’s American Museum in Britain, which was a nice place to stop-off as we journeyed down from Leicestershire. It is a very interesting museum and for us, the replica of George Washington’s garden was of special interest. Also as the museum was celebrating 50 years in Britain, there was an exhibition of 20 of Marilyn Monroe’s dresses on display.
During the weekend we visited The Chalice Well garden near Glastonbury and the Cannington Walled Garden near Bridgwater, as well as Dunster Castle. We were surprised by the amount of blooms still looking so lovely and colourful for the season.
On our homeward journey, thanks to information in Group Leisure magazine, we paid a visit to Cotswold Farm Park. It was just by chance that I noticed a picture of Adam Henson in the July issue, and read that coach parties could visit the shop and restaurant for a stopover. Nearly all our group are fans of BBC’s Countryfile, so I guessed that this would be a nice surprise for them. I contacted the restaurant manager and arranged to stop for tea and cakes. This was beautifully served in a private room and everyone was so pleased to have been able to visit Adam’s farm. We didn’t have time to see many of the rare breed farm animals, but some of us did follow the wildlife walk where the goats were very friendly.
We really did have a full four-day break in glorious weather, staying at a very nice hotel with an excellent coach driver. What could be better?
